I have a cream-puff (and I really mean a cream-puff) 2004 CRV-EX with 101K miles. It has been a phenomenal car with all preventive maintenance done as recommended.

All of a sudden, I have a host of problems, and am trying to decide if I should pay the $2000 the dealer is asking for repairs, or just put the money towards a down payment on a new car. It needs a drive belt ($150); a tune up ($185); an O2 sensor ($590) and a throttle body ($1130). The dealer told me this should be everything until the 120K maintenance, which would run $320. I realize I have a 10-yr. old car and am in the "high maintenance years". If I would have the $2000 done, would this be wise, or just start all over with a newer one? I don't want to spend this much, if another batch of expensive repairs is in the near future.

welcome to the forum. Dealers are expensive, lots of overhead to keep up, and parts are at full list. You might want to find a good shop that also works on Hondas and get a quote from them as to what can be fixed on the cream puff. 2k is a lot of money to fix a 10yr old car.

 

I have to agree,that car can't be worth a whole lot more than that.

 

Thanks, acmech52 and bucwheat, that's pretty much what I thought. It's hard to let go of a great car, but the reality of it is, it is an old car. Think I'll just put that $2k down on a new one!

 

jesus $600 dollars for an oxygen sensor thats beyond a rip off the sensor can be purchased at autozone or napa for under $150 dollars honda uses DENSO or NTK. the job to replace the sensor can be done yourself in 10 minutes all you need is a wrench. the same can be said for the throttlebody if i was you id buy a manual and do it all yourself for under $500 bucks.
