Help with Valves !
Purchased a 98 cbr 600 F3 recently and am in the process of rebuilding the cylinder head. I re-lapped the valves because I was getting only 15 psi compression on banks 1-3 and 60psi on 4. Put everything back together and started to measure and adjust the valve clearances where I ran into a problem I had never seen. This bike has "Shim" type valves.
My exhaust clearances are measureable, .22mm is the spec and they are all around .20 to .17 (Not perfect, but I can re-shim them)
My Intakes however I cannot measure. Spec is .16mm but nothing will fit between the cam shaft and the shim bucket. I tried a .04mm feeler gauge and even that would not fit. As far as I can tell, with the stock shims installed, the clearance is 0. Calculations on what shims would theoretically work would put them at a .51mm shim for all intakes. Correct?? (I can give all measured clearances for exhaust and all current shim sizes for intakes and exhaust if needed)
Am I doing this right? Does anyone have suggestions or advice to offer me?
This is my FIRST bucket/shim type valve job and I'm kinda flying blind, even with the FSM. I've done the other valve type adjustment (Nut and screw valve stem) but this is just beyond me. I've tried to get advice on CBRextreme.com and CBRforum.com, but no luck there. CBRforum wont allow me to post on the forums and it's been 2 weeks!!
I'm REALLY hoping someone here can shed some light, or has a mechanic friend who can help me. Thank you in advance for anything ya'll can do for me.
