188K Miles
 

Hello,

I'm looking to buy my first car and I've only heard great things about CRVs. I don't really know a lot about cars, but I know once a car hits around 150K miles, expensive problems can arise.

There's a 2000 CRV EX with 188K miles on it at a local used car lot. It drives good and sounds fine, but I don't want to buy something that's gonna die in the next year. How many miles can people usually get out of the 2000 before the engine wears out or something?

It'd just depends on how well they were treated and maintained,try and find out if the timing belt and water pump have been changed,if the dealer that has it did the work then they can tell you,check all records. These Hondas can go well into the 300k mile ranges .

To me, the total miles is not that important anymore. It is how the miles have been accumulated and what kind of maintenance or repairs have been done. Checking the service record can help you with this.

yeah 188k is nothing for a well maintained honda engine as for the transmission thats a different story. bottom line is buying any used car high mileage or not is always a gamble.

Besides all the above things mentioned......it's location, location, location. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 188k in Southern California. Average yearly miles for a car in SoCal is 28,000mi, so 188k is young for a 13yo car. Weather treats vehicles extremely well, and the strongest smog check in the world makes sure things on cars get repaired. This is why used cars cost 35-50% more than any other area in the US. 188k on a car driven in Northern States is usually overdue for a junk yard.
