1997 Honda CRV won’t start every time. Help!!
I have a 1997 Honda CRV. My car won’t start every time I try to start it. The key will turn over completely and sounds like it’s ready to start but it don’t & I have to leave my hood popped and let my car sit there for least 50 mins before trying again then it will start. It’s like the motor has to cool down. I put a new distributor, fuel pressure regulator, spark plugs, fuel filter and the fuel pump main rely. It still doesn’t want to start up & sometimes it isles high not every time though and sometimes when I do turn the key over and get it to start I have to hit the gas petal a little bit so it won’t shut off. I have to leave my car running when I go places that I know I won’t be there for longer than a hour. Please someone help me! |

So cranks, no start when hot??
Need to test it when it is hot and doesn't start Check for spark Check for fuel Sometimes, when quiet, one can hear the fuel pump prime the fuel rail when the key is first turned to the ON position |
Starter, maybe?
I've seen an issue that sounds like that on some other Japanese cars, were it won't crank the engine if it's warm. It usually turns out the be the starter solenoid, and the only fix is to get a new starter assembly from a dealer, because the aftermarket ones always develop that problem after a time.
That's if your engine isn't cranking, if the engine turns over fine, but won't fire up, I would check on the ignition because that gets hot when the engine does, and heat is what breaks those. |
Just guessing ... could it be the crank sensor?

It's possible it's the anti theft system locking it up and keeping it from starting, since you say you can go back and it starts, that lets me know it resets itself. |
