2001 CRV O2 sensor
 

So on my car, the check engine light came on.
I went to Auto Zone and was told one of the O2 sensors went out.
They want me to pay $78 for a Bosch one model 13539.
I went to my mechanic for verification and he said the same thing and that it will be about $100 for the part (aftermarket) plus the cost of install.
He also said that Bosch wasn't that great in terms of O2 sensors, and that the sensor that needs to be replaced is something more the an O2 sensor. I don't remember exactly what it was, just that it either had something done to it or it detects something else. Also went into the lecture about how installing the wrong one could fry the main board.
I would love to leave it be, but I just got the emissions test notification, so I'll need it done sooner rather then later.

My question is this, am I going to have to get the expensive sensor, and is there any way to find an after market that's truly compatible? If it's truly safest to just stick with the mechanic, I'll do it, I'm just a little low on money so I want to cut costs if I can safely without damaging anything else.

welcome to the forum. If you get an aftermarket O2 sensor, don't be surprised if it fails in a very short time, may even fail before emissions test. after market not the same as Honda part.

In other words, either go with OEM (over $200), or use my mechanic who will back up the aftermarket part?

Yes, I would do so. I rather pay more for something that I know will last longer that have this problem in a year or even less again.

Nippondenso makes a replacement sensor that iss the "same" as factory oem. The original part was sourced from Nippondenso originally by Honda. Look for a"Denso" bran sensor with the plug made onto the part and it should be less expensicve than tthe Honda Genuine brand.

That certainly looks more like what I would like to do.
Searching leads me to believe this would be the part to get.

If this is the correct part, then I can order one sooner rather than later, and it helps cut the cost down dramatically.

I would rather make sure I am looking at the right part before ordering anything.
