2007 CRV. Problem with Hub Assembly and Knuckle
Hi All.
Just signed up. I working on my sons 2007 CRV LX AWD. Replacing hub assemblies on both rears. Started as rotors, pads, shoes, expanded to backing plates and then to hub assemblies. I cant get the new assemblies fully into the knuckle. Torqued the 4 bolts and still can only get this far seated. See pics. Any advice would be appreciated. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...c0c67216a9.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...7fcb29b9af.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...140ef1856c.jpg |
FIGURED IT OUT.
My brain was not working. To review: Rotors and pads on rear were real bad. I bought new rotors, pads, and e-brake shoes. Took everything apart, noticed backing plates were rusted to $hit. To get to backing plates, I have to remove hub assembly. Decided, what the hell, I’m in this deep, it’s a 15 year old car, might as well put in new hub assemblies (with bearings) along with backing plates. Ordered more parts Cleaned everything up, light grease, then tried to put in hub assemblies (Moog PN 512345). They did not go on easy. Started questioning if right part. Finally does go in but noticed gap. Posted to Forum. Pulled out knuckle and tried on bench. Still gap, even after torquing to spec (101 ft-lbs) Scratched my head. Then noticed new backing plates on bench sitting there nice and shiny. Sudden insight, I forgot backing plate! Humbled, I reassembled everything but this time WITH backing plate, Viola! No gap! Bottom Line. First pants, Then shoes. (First backing plate, then hub assembly) Hub assembly WILL be tight in Knuckle, use grease, tighten in cross pattern so parts don’t bind. Everything should bottom out once fully torqued. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...5ce47c0298.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...e9e6a9842c.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/hondafo...165f6f4064.jpg |
