2009 Honda CRV EX Starting Issue Question

Hi All,
I am new to this group and would appreciate any help with an intermittent starting issue. I recently purchased a 2009 Honda CRV EX w/88K and did a complete fluid change, replaced all the brakes and installed a new exhaust. The car was in great shape and well care for by the previous owner.

I noticed an occasional clicking or hesitation when starting the car. The owner said he just replaced the battery so my next thought was the starter. A few friends said there were complaints about the starter so I decided to replace it with a Denso rebuilt. Almost immediately I noticed the problem still existed!! I tested the battery and it was 100% charged and the alternato's output was fine.

The next part I was going to replace is the "Ignition Switch". It appears to be a relatively easy job with minimal cost ($64.00 for Genuine Honda). Before I do that I wanted to see if anyone had a better course of action.

Thanks in advance!

Bob K

Corrosion can not be seen. So to eliminate possible problems due to corrosion,
Clean up battery posts and cable terminals
Follow negative cable to chassis ground and clean contact points
Next locate grounding strap for the engine and clean also.
Then tests. If it still has issue then let us know.

On my old 2001 Elantra, I experienced an intermittent starting problem.
Some days, I would get in and it would start no problem
Other days, it would do nothing when the key was turned to start the engine
On second or third try it would work.
So, I cleaned up the above described contact points
And I changed the ignition switch just in case
Never had another starting issue.
Junk the car due to rust and evap check engine light
Rust was so bad that the rear support beam would crumble in my hand
Junked it cause I did not feel right about selling it to anyone.

Agree. Cleaning up the battery will definitely do the trick. This is definitely the first step to take.
