2017 Honda CR-V Broken Shifter Button During Travel
Recently had the shifter button break on our 2017 CR-V. Found the TSB 19-063 that covers this issue. Funny how they state that "The shift **** button is susceptible to breakage after being exposed to heat and humidity". Like that doesn't happen to park cars across the world at some point during summers.. Anyway, I contacted the nearest dealer explaining that the button fell out of it's place while wife was driving down the road. Thankfully it fell in the floorboard and she could use it to shift back to park in order to start the vehicle again.
Made an appointment to have the CR-V serviced under TSB for the following Friday, a week after calling. On the day of the appointment I called to confirm parts were on hand and appointment is still good due to dealer being 45 mins away - confirmation received. Got to the dealer and was told unfortunately my VIN was not covered in the TSB and the cost would be out of pocket to me. It was hard not to lose it that day, but they did hear my frustration. I called in a complaint to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) while onsite. By now service department is basically carrying on like I'm not even there.
I previously had asked for the cost of the parts and was quoted $31. The TSB shows labor rate at .3. Checked online and I can get the part w/spring for <$10. Came home, trying to turn Friday back into a good day, and ordered the part off eBay. Received the part today and repaired our CR-V in under 30 mins with the very instructions that are published with the TSB.
Been driving Honda's for over 22 years and this CR-V is a good vehicle. I explained to the customer service rep who took my call, it's a shame that a $10 part and 15-30 mins of labor will have such a tremendous impact on my next vehicle decision.
Official Honda folks that may read this, you may want to educate your service departments on what good customer service really is. My wife was put in a bad safety situation and just because our VIN wasn't captured on a TSB, shame on Honda and the Dahl Honda dealership for their poor concern for a long time customer.
