Default CAT Placement - O2 code

Hello. have a question about my 2005 CRV LX.

My catalytic converter was stolen a few months ago and I got my local mechanic to weld on a universal with two new O2 sensors for me. It keeps throwing a bad O2 sensor code, so I crawled under to take a look and noticed two things. First, the welds leak (great big bubbles when I spray em’) Second, the cat is noticeably closer to the engine than it was.

I know exhaust leaks can cause an O2 sensor code. Does the location of the CAT cause a problem? I know closer is better, but perhaps moving it a foot upstream is causing something the be unbalanced? Trying to make sure I know what to talk with the mechanic about when I take it back in.

Aftermarket universal replacements .... Thumbs down ... bad weld ... both thumbs down

Money already spent.
Option 1, have the weld done again and hope it is done right and/or see if new O2 sensor will fix it??
Option 2, spend lots of additional money to get correct parts and hope that will fix it??
Honda vehicles do not like after market electronics. ABS sensors, O2 sensors, etc.
I wish you luck

I am still fight a low efficiency cat code.

I hear ya. Honda parts would have been more than the value of the vehicle, so I had to try aftermarket.

do you think the location of the CAT would be a problem? It’s about a foot closer to the engine than it was.

Make that guy weld it up correctly or he has wasted your money.

It should not make any difference cause it is still the same exhaust gas. It does not change much in that extra foot.
