Dead Battery
 

Hello all,
We have a 2017 CR V Touring we purchased new in '17. The battery finally went. I changed the battery and drove it, all the safety warnings reset as they should. The screen said to hold the power button to reset the alarm system, I also did that.
Went inside and the car came alive! Horn honking, all lights on windshield wipers on dash on and the fob did not let me in, I had to use the key to stop the horn and get in. Along with everything else, I noticed the security red led was blinking. I started the car and drove it again, everything seemed ok, came home, shut it off and locked it with the handle touch.
5 minutes later, the same thing! I felt like I had a 'Transformer car'!
Went through the same thing and it did it again, so I called a priest...Just kidding, I have to leave for a 4 hour drive for a business trip so I disconnected the NEG. from the NEW battery.
Hoping to get some help before I get home to tackle this. This is what happens when you have a car with all the ginger bread and the warranty is out!!! All I did was change the battery...

Sounds like;
A. You did not use an ODBII Memory Saver

and

B. You pressed and held the main power button causing an emergency power off condition instead of pressing and holding the audio power button to reset the anti-theft system.

What is an OBDII memory saver? When should it be used? Yes, I will google and research it after Thursday when they repair our hurricane internet damage and I'm off the molasses hotspot.

An OBDII memory saver is a simple way to keep power to your modules so you do not lose things like radio presets/anti theft, seat memory, adaptive transmission setting ect.
It plugs into your OBDII port.

They come in different styles from the simplistic ones that you need a battery to clamp it to and ones that use a 9v battery to the pro models that have a rechargeable lithium ion battery built in. The price ranges from about $15 to about $80. FWIW, I like the ones that use a 12v power supply regardless of the source.

It should be used when changing the 12V battery or in my case, checking the water level in the battery because both terminal connectors must be removed.

Thanks. That is interesting, useful and helpful. I'll research them once better connected. I thought it was going to be something about storing codes or something. This definitely puts me on the right path.

We have ATT and our area is still on copper wire. This storm finally did it in. They will install fiber optic Thursday. We had power out for about 15 hours. That and ATT are the only issues from the storm. Well, and a yard full of small branches and leaves. Really just a windier than usual rainstorm. Thanks again.
