I shared this over on another forums sort of, and wanted to share it here and maybe find a better moderated forum.

Backstory:

I bought a new 2022 honda crv awd ex-l last 2 weeks ago. As with my other vehicles, I like to make spare keys just in case and I happen to know a good local locksmith that does so, cheap. Dealer quoted me $260.00 PER KEY fob. I'd want 2 of those PLUS a mechanical key that I could hide under car to get in if needed.

Here is what i did:

Ordered the 2 new key fobs off amazon:

In their graphic they show the numbers of the key fob, fcc id etc etc:

the details for my push to start, and everyone else's push to start honda crv from probably 2017 thru 2022:

you can find your numbers if you split the case of the fob- read your owners manual as to how- and get a magnifying glass and take a look. The numbers above will be shown. The only difference will be driver1 versus driver2 fobs. driver1 ends in 200, and driver2 ends in 400 like above.

I got the 2 new fobs, and went to my locksmith. At first he wasnt' sure as his device only went to 2016. But he then was easily able to program both fobs, cut the key part and everything works!!!
I saved almost $400 by having him do this and me ordering the keys. The keys were $80 for 2 and cutting/programming charge was $50 total.

I hope this helps someone!! it's alot easier to program them than people at dealers let on.
