Remove Scotchgard White Residue from Interior
 

I just applied two coats of the 3M Scotchgard Auto to the upholstery/carpets inside my CR-V. There is some white residue on the plastic, vinyl and metal parts. I hope this is not damaging those areas. What is the best way to remove the residue?

welcome to the forum. have you tried to just wiping it off with a soft cloth, or using diswashing liquid on a damp cloth.

I think there must be a difference between how the Scotchgard dries in warm versus cold weather. I tried to clean up the residue as best as possible. But there is a still some white residue left over.

It seems like it comes off with warm/hot water. But it takes a lot of effort. I have note tried soap yet. What kind of soap can I use? Someone suggested Woolite diluted (???). I just want to be careful not to use something that might be harsh or cause deterioration to the vinyl/plastic.

I just got a reply back from 3M. Of course they didn't read it thoroughly. They gave me a recipe to remove it from sealed wood using non-acetone nail polish remover. Totally ignored the plastic/vinyl part.

I have used the stuff many times and had no problems with it,it should have been absorbed by the material unless the interior has already been treated and in that case it would remain on top of the seats until it eventually evaporated.Take a good grade upholstery cleaner and do all the seats ,this should help.Good luck,Bobby

Try non-acetone fingernail polish remover (testing a tiny spot of course). It worked on metal for me. The nail polish remover pads work the best and are easy to control.

use GOOGONE or Simple Green.
