Default Roof rails

Recently bought a 2012 CRV EX. Was going to get the roof rails and cross bars but $700+ seemed a little to steep for some thing so simple. I'm thinking of making my own. So here's the question????? Do the stock ones seal water out between the body and the rail it's self ? It looks as though there is a step or a groove that the rail goes into ? Any pictures of an install from someone who has installed a set or a Honda Tech that might know would really help.

Thanks!!!!!

ACMECH52 Thanks for your response! So just a sealer around the holes, that's it? Nothing to keep water out of the channel area? Water must drain with the cruveature of the roof out the back and front ? I live in the northeast so ice is a concern. Thanks!

Welcome in,I have seen these things taken off and there is a gasket sort of material under the contact points. a good silicone used sparingly will work if it's cleaned properly.

Thanks Buc!!! So more of a cushin to protect the paint and prevent rattles than keep water out? Of course seal the screws.

Well it is a rubberize material so I'm sure it seals out water, just make sure the screws are sealed.

They do make caps for exposed screws.

Well I found some factory rails on-line. According to the installation instructions there are studs already in place and you just have to put half a dozen torx nuts on to hold them on. There is an end cap that is reused in the back. Up front you cut the piece that is there now about 3/4" from the top of the windshield and the rail covers that end.

So are the holes for the bolts molded into the top?

Buc,
According to the installation instructions that I found they are studs that are on the roof already. I haven't pulled up the strips that are there now to see for myself yet. When I get a nice day I will dig into this.
