2015 Fit brakes
 

Hi all:

Looking at the 2015 Fit when my current lease expires, plenty of time, so for now I'm just looking. On the surface, it appears that the Fit might do the trick for me, or course I'd want to do a test drive to make sure. I am currently leasing a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT, and there are some good and some bad points. Let's get back to the Fit.

In reading a review I was very surprised to learn that the 2015 Fit has DISC brakes in the front but DRUM in the rear. DICS brakes have less parts and so I would think that would be the way to go. Can anyone confirm this? If true, I am very curious as to why Honda would be using DRUM brakes. Any insight (no pun intended) would be appreciated.

welcome to the forum. honda Fit is light in weight 2500+ lbs. my brakes (front rotor and pads ) lasted 2 years on my 07 fit. (replacement from Auto zone) 130hp not a lot of horse power. Also the Fit is not made to go racing. Also drum brakes are cheaper for the dealer to put on than disk brakes. Honda is always trying to save money as long as it is safe. And yes the Fit will go fast, I took mine up the Cajone Pass ( interstate 15 ) up hill full of junk at 95+ over the pass at 115 until I saw a smoky. brakes work real good.

Thank you for the response. I did not realize that a DRUM setup would be cheaper than DISC. I thought that fewer parts would wind up saving money. The initial reviews are good, and so when I begin my replacement options, I will give the Fit a test drive. Thanks again

plus 75% of your stopping force comes from the front of the car via weight transfer so rear disc aren't really necessary. the rear drum shoes are also technically a lifetime part because of this.
