hrv-rear shocks

Granddaughter has a 2016 hrv. 50000 miles noise in rear. Dealer stated both rear shocks need replacement. $860 !! Was told extended warrenty no coverage. Also told extended policy not with honda but 3rd party. not informed this at time of purchase. All our other hondas have 100000+ miles no failures.Dealer said normal wear. If this is new normal wear for honda we will become toyota family. My 2012 corolla has 170000 no repairs and no loss of oil between service.

welcome to the forum. our 16 hr-v had a noise in the back of the car, made noise only when going up a mild driveway, certain bumps, not all bumps, then sometimes on acceleration. found the noise from a loose nut on strut support. Honda thought it was shocks, but did not come from shock area. this was found at 22k miles a few months ago. it took a tech 2-3 days and into the shop 2 times to fix. bushings replaced did not fix it, no cost to us. just out of curiosity did you purchase the extended warranty from the same Honda dealer that you bought the hr-v from. my 100k mile warranty covered all parts except normal ware parts, wipers, brakes and pads, shocks, tires, all light bulbs, oil and filters. have you tried other places for shock replacement costs, sears, minike, firestone, good year, midas, pep boys, brake and tire shops that change shocks.

2016 hrv shocks

bought warranty at honda at time of purchace . Had honda replace as we were there and I didn't want granddaughter on road while we looked for other place for repair. slight noise rear right. They said they needed to replace both. Hard to believe at 50000. All our other hondas have gone well over 100000 with no major repairs.

I have not had any Honda that needed shocks replaced at 50k mine all had 250k+ and still no shock change. has the noise gone away since the shock/strut change.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but every auto repair shop and parts store I've been to has posters saying that all shocks (and struts) need to be replaced every 50k. I've never seen shocks wear out that fast unless they're cheap junk, but I wouldn't expect warranties on shocks that old.

That said, it's great to see these other replies about long lived shocks! My CR-V has 183k and I'm pretty sure my shocks are all original. I'm also pretty sure I need new ones. They're quiet, and they damp well, but they aren't supporting my car right.
