New car mileage concern...

I'm dumping three cars and buying three new Honda's, a Pilot, CR-v and a HR-v. It is difficult to find three just like we want. My wife and I are very OCD about things and have horrible thoughts of how our brand news cars may have been driven if they have more than say, 2 to 20 miles on them. For example if the dealer has to go get one for us 100 miles away, or one was test driven a bit. I worry about how the engine was treated during the initial "break-in" period. I mean can you really damage engine longevity by punching it a few times with less than 1500 miles on it?

welcome to the forum. No the break in on the newer cars makes no difference. when I purchased my 85 Nissan, I was told to keep it under 65mph for the first 100 miles. I did and before I sold it, it had 375k and no oil burn or bypass. on my 02 civic, first day I drove it with 2 miles got it up to 100 miles, at 220k I gave it to my son, no oil burn or engine problems from oil change to oil change at each 5k miles. my 07 Honda I drove this car as I would daily, 80 mph going down hill on the I-15 with traffic, no problems to date with 280k. new break in should be as you would drive daily. you should go pick your new car up, the dealer/sales man should tell you all about the features of your new ride. enjoy your new rides. we have an hr-v, great car. lots of enjoyment, and wife is not a slow driver.

Bear in mind that all cars are inspected and road tested at the factory as part of being manufactured. They also have to be driven on and off of trucks to be moved, and driven around dealers for storage and detailing purposes. If a car has less than about 15 miles on it, chances are that nobody has driven it at all expect Honda employees.
