Hi,

I just paid off my car, and received a Title from California DMV. Am I supposed to fill odometer reading, and sign it?

No! Do not fill any of it out! If the title is yours, and in your name, don't alter it.

The forms on the title are for you to transfer the ownership to someone else when you sell the car. When that happens is when you have to fill out the odo reading, and you and the new owner must sign that part.

The form on the back of the title is for the new owner to fill out to claim ownership of the car. The detachable part is for you to fill out to release your interest in, and responsibility for, the car.

It's short, fill out NO part of your title until you sell your car.
