This is a rant. i just got back from a long vacation to japan and while i was there i learned an insane amount of things about cars.. one thing that i have grown to HATE since my trip is the over-popular Vtec. it makes no sense to me. 1 the vtec motors only have about 15-30 more BHP than its non vtec brother, while that is a good difference the NON vtec motors usually cost about 200-300 less. that being said another point id like to make is MOST hondas tach out anywhere from 6500-7000 and vtec doesnt USUALLY kick in till 5k so thats what 1500 rpms that your going to have 15-30 extra BHP. here is what i learned vtec is a joke take a non vtec motor build it up and turbo it and you will be looking at a very well rounded honda motor. On the flip side to my argument some people know how to tune/tweak their Vtec where is actually does give them a substantial difference but not everyone can preform or buy that good of a tune just to have their vtec be worth it.

Good point,I often wonder about the Vtec popularity myself. It seems that Honda should offer an engine to compete with Subaru and Nissian, maybe it's in the works. Considering Hondas track record a super high output motor would sell extremely well.

I guess to each his own. I was initially impressed by the VTec engine too but later realised i can get a better output if i buy a regular one and just spruce it up. And 200-300 cost difference is a lot if you ask me! And i agree with buckwheat too, to be successful you gotta to beat Nissan. If i had the money i would directly jump to Nissan Xtrail. On another note, have you guys checked out the new Nissan 370 Nismo RC?!
