2000 crv ignition switch
 

Ignition switch will need replacing before cold weather. Key is difficult to remove now due to wear. Ebay has part for $200. Auto parts warehouse wants $391.Any thoughts on using ebay part? I will shop local to see what the zone has in stock. Is the ignition switch difficult to replace? I have read there are permanent screws that need to be slotted and removed, any other trouble spots I should know about? Thanks

first have you tried lubricating the key cylinder to see if that helps or have you tried having a new key cut to see if its the actual key that's giving you this problem. as for ebay i tend to stay away from there its to hit or miss for me i would purchase the part from here they are very reputable thats were i shop for parts.

I have to agree,that is the first thing that came to mind recut a new key first and see if that helps. I have been buying from Ebay for many years and can honestly say I have never had a problem.Ebay vendors don't want a bad rating from you so they do their best to keep you happy.

Thanks for your response. Yes I have tried a replacement key, still operates about the same. Yes over past few years I have kept lock cylinder lubricated. 200,000+ mi and I think the part is getting tired. I see from your link there is a replacement lock cylinder and keys available . I was considering the whole ignition switch assy. I understand there is some dealer programming required for a replacement ignition assy. Would the lock cylinder require similar programming?

if your car is equipped with an ignition imobilizer then yes the new keys will have to be programmed to the ECU. so if you install it yourself plan on having that baby towed to your nearest honda dealer unless you do it in there parking lot. most dealers charge upwards of 50 dollars to reprogramme a single key.
