2001 Honda Civic Automatic
Well last Friday on the way home from work the transmission went out, It sliped all the way to the house, There was this horrific sound that it had been making up to this point, but it would go away after the car warmed up. It sounded like a bearing in the starter or alternator. Can any one tell me what caused this and what this is. The car still goes in reverse but barely.

It will go in reverse but after you put it in park and it sits running awhile, that horrific noise is still there too. It sort of flucuates as it runs, the sound going up and down. |
for starters you trans went because honda installed an un-servicable internal mesh filter that was to fine and allowed it to clog up and cut off oil pressure starving your trans and making your clutch packs chew themselves to pieces.some 2001 civics didn't last 50,000 miles as for the noise it could be anything. your only real option is to buy another used trans and install an aftermarket trans oil filter and trans cooler. that should significantly extend the life of the trans but not completely fix the problem since its faulty product from honda.

If you have tried all possible measures to get on with your auto ‘box and can’t find a solution, you could always get a new or used transmission (or its components) for much lesser than the market price. http://www.automotix.net/usedtransmi...inventory.html this page highlights 2001Civic transmissions and descriptions. Take a look.
