Android Auto Music Volume Issue

Just got a new 2018 Civic Touring sedan. I had Android Auto's navigation with Google Maps running. I also had an FM station playing in the background. No matter what I tried, I wasn't able to change the FM radio volume without completely closing out of Android Auto. Every time I tried to use the volume controls it would change the "guidance volume," not the music volume. Is this normal behavior? I would like to be able to listen to the radio and control it's volume separately from Android Auto. This seems like a pretty big oversight. When listing to music from Android Auto itself, the volume control seems smart enough to know which volume I want to set (music or navigation), but I don't always want to be using music through Android Auto.
