ATF fluid, use Honda's or generic?

Default ATF fluid, use Honda's or generic?
I have a 2000 Honda Accord 4 cyl with an Automatic transmission.
The transmission fluid was low so I went down to the local auto parts store for the ATF, the local store recomend that i get the ATF straight from Honda.

So do I really need to use "Honda" brand of ATF or can I use the ATF form the local auto parts store?

welcome to the forum. I have both an auto and manual, I use honda direct. most of the auto parts places I go to recommend to go to Honda direct. just a note, 2000 accords did have recalls on their trans.

Bought a quart of ATF from Honda, transmission is much happier now.
