engine valve train making noise

I have a 16Dy7 that has after market crank, rods, pistons, cam, t-4 turbo,I have no spec sheets on any of the parts used,I pulled head because of a heating problem,I put new arp studs, put everything back in order changed nothing, checked cam for flat spots, checked rockers, checked rocker shafts to make sure getting oil all were ok,removed no shims,I feelI must have a timing problem did not have noise beforeI tore it apart, I timed engine for stock timining matching the up on cam gear and crank gear to its mark on case could the aftermarket cam be advanced a tooth or so, engine still runs great no loss of power thatI can feel i'm running 9psi of boost, can I bump the timing up one tooth on belt without shoving a valve into my piston and which way wouldI advance it clock wise or counter clockwise or can anyonegive me some other ideas I do thankyou for your time.
