Default fuel gauge '02 civic

I have an '02 civic lx sedan. My fuel gauge has been trippin from time to time. I know I have a full tank because I just filled it up. My gauge will read empty and my gas light is on. I had this problem before, but it would eventually fix itself and function normally. This time it's been on for two days. Is it the sending unit, the gauge? I know its not the pump because my car starts good and obviously runs. Anyone else have a similar situation?

got an 02 civic, no problems with mine, check your connections to be good and clean. if you live in an area with lots of rain/moisture, this can cause mild corrosion at terminals

I have had this problem with my Vette and my Diesel truck,I used a product called Seafoam ,it cleans the sensors in the fuel tank and it works great. I had several people tell me to try Techron but it did nothing for me,after two bottles in two seperate tanks both vehicles now work fine and have been for over a year. So check the terminals and if no results ,do the Seafoam thing.

this seems to be a problem with EM2's i believe its the sending unit in the gas tank that is giving you problems. here is how it works http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-gauge1.htm
