Default Headlights go out.

I have a 1986 Accord LXi 3 door with 216,000 miles on it. When ever I drive at night my headlights will sometimes go out and then back on. This only happens when they are on low beams and not high beams. When it first happened it only went out for a second or so, but now it can go out for more than 5 seconds. I can switch them back to high beams and all is fine. But when I turn them back to low beams the lights will sometimes shut back off. I have noticed when this happens my brake lights and running lights are still on. Just the headlights shut off. Any clues on what it could be?

welcome to the forum. check the ground wire and clean it well, make sure your head light connector in back of the light are clean and no loose wires or clips, then trace the line back a bit to see if there are any burnt tape enclosing the wires for the head light.

That would be my guess,a bad switch, they don't cost too much and easy to install.
