Honda Engine: Good or bad? opinions?

Hi all. Recently had my 99 Si stolen from outside my house...have been looking for a new one. Seems like all the Honda's on Craigslist, or even autotrader, have rebuilt or new/used engines in them. I can't find one Honda that doesn't have oil burning/leaking issues (faulty valve suspect) or are advertising a 130k chasis on a 45k engine: wtf? This bothers me for two reasons: I love Honda. Second reason, I had engine issues with my DOHC. From rebuild, to blown head gasket (it wasn't that bad I guess it got stolen.) What are some semi-professional Honda owners feelings on Honda engines? I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I can't see myself buying another Honda engine, given what I've seen online and with what my experience has been. The DOHC VTEC should be able to handle the 8000 RPM's (I never drove mine to that limit) but I am inclined to believe that it reduces their lifetime by a significant amount. Props to Honda on the tranny--never had to replace the clutch on 147k+!!!

Honda engines are reliable, last a long time with mimimal maintenance. If driven hard, any engine will need more work. Honda engines develope good hp for size of engine.
