New Motor, No Paperwork!? Need help!
I've got an astonishing delima on my hands and I'm really hoping a helping hand will lend me some knowledge. Late last summer the engine on my 01 Prelude decided to blow on me. The Supposed cause is a broken bolt which disloged the harmonic balance pulley and fried the rest of the motor. The only dealer nearby was a Ford dealership who replaced the engine with with another from a salvage yard. Since the motor has been replaced I've heard 3 different versions of the proper mileage on the motor. I first heard 7,000 miles, then 71,000 miles, now 79,000. No documentation for mileage was included with the motor and I'm trying to sell it and I'm struggling. The dealership is located 7 hours from me so it's all done phone. What legal action if any can I take in this situation?

welcome to the forum. when you got the replacement engine installed, you paid the bill, I take it that they did not give you any information on what salvage yard they obtained the engine from. I also take it that the service manager at Ford is a total flake due to not knowing where the engine came from or what the milage on the engine was but mostly just wanted to change the engine and get your money.
If all else fails, if and when you sell the car, you can tell the buyer that the engine was replace by Ford, and the est milage you were told by Ford.
Normally Dealerships get engines from salvage yards that deal with used Japan engines, if this is true, Japanese engines normally have an est. 40k. There is not much else you can do but to call and keep bugging them to get the est milage of the engine. Perhaps calling the service manager 2-3 times a week might spur him/her to find the milage to get you off their back. Keep squeeking...
