Ripped Off?

Hi experts, I just bought a 2001 Honda Odyssey with 50,000 miles for $5,900. The guy I bought it from said an old lady owned it and that he bought it from her, but since his parents decided to go back to Mexico, he doesn't need an extra car anymore. Then I took it to my buddy who's a mechanic. He had the car up on the lift and pointed out that the transmission shell was mostly one color, but the other part of the shell was a different color, indicating that it probably has a rebuilt tranny. He said it didn't look like the odometer was rolled back or anything because the gas pedal wasn't worn at all. In fact, the interior is mint condition. The vehicle also has a strange feeling when it downshifts from 25mph to 20mph or so. Instead of smoothly decelerating it’s like someone tapped the brakes when it downshifts to create a short jerk, a dive in speed.

Anyway, the other day I found what looks like more evidence of what looks like a rebuilt tranny. See these pictures below. VIN is 2HKRL18751H514906. What do you guys think? Do you think it has a rebuilt transmission?

Thanks for your feedback.

welcome to the forum. It does appear the trans has been worked on. normally no one writes on the housing, also the bolt head looks like wrench marks. you trans doing a down shift if it came out in your year is called grade logic. as you are going down hill and applying the brake the trans down shifts automatically to assist the slowing of the vehicle.
