What does the "Auto" button do for A/C?

Hello,

We just bought a new 2023 Honda Accord LX, and we are trying to understand the Climate Control system. If we push the A/C button to run the air conditioning system, and we set the desired temperature, what do we need the "Auto" button for?

In other words, what if we turn on the A/C, but we don't push the "Auto" button? Won't the A/C still work the same?

Thanks,

Louis

If it's not on auto and you have it set for 72* it will not stop cooling even after hitting a lower temp.

Thanks. We had sort of guessed that was the answer, but we wanted to be sure, and we appreciate the response. Our problem was that we were used to older cars, which had no such A/C function. In our last car, you either turned the A/C on or you turned it off. There was no such thing as an "Auto" button to maintain a specific temperature.

Now, let me ask the same question, but this time, concerning the heating. What if we want to have heating instead of cooling. If we set the temperature to say, 75 degrees, what do we do next? After we turn the temperature dial to 75, what do we do next? Do we actually push the A/C button, even though we don't want cooling?
And if so, how does the car know whether to turn on the compressor or not?

Thanks again, and please excuse the dumb question from a couple whose last car was a 1999 Ford.

Thanks again, but I'm still wondering about my question concerning the heating. Can you help me with the heating question?

I've had some people tell me that even if I just want heat, that I still have to push the A/C button on, and some people tell me that if I just want heat, all I need to do is to turn up the temperature button and not turn on the A/C button,

Can you tell me which is right?

Thanks

The A/C is used in the Winter only when fog is accumulating on the windows. Otherwise just set the temperature.

Thanks very much! That makes sense!
