wiper / blinker arm OR electrical harness

1998 Honda Civic Coupe EX. So, the windshield wipers have a mind of their own. Sometimes they come on when headlights are turned on. Sometimes they come on when blinker is used. Sometimes when cruise is used. I was thinking (and being told) it's the wiper arm assembly. But, as I think this thru, I'm not so sure. The wiper arm and the turn signal arms are on opposite sides of the steering wheel and the cruise is not on the arm at all ... wouldn't this suggest that the problem is within the wiring harness between the two? The replacement arms don't come with wiring, they just plug in to a wiring harness, right? So, do I need to find an a mechanic with electrical know-how to look at the wiring in the steering column? the arms are $88 each and I hate to spend that money and find out it's the wiring. I've already spent over $800 trying to repair the problem.

It sounds like you do have a problem with the wiring in your steering colomn. I dont see why the wipers would come on by turning on the lights on the opposite site. I would have someone test the wires to see what exactly is triggering it. You may have an exposed wire completing the circuit. :D
