05 Accord LX intermittent starting issues
2005 Accord LX with 210K miles. Over the last year I've experienced intermittent bad starts. This happens mostly when I'm out running short errands and the engine is hot. It cranks but doesn't sound/feel like it's getting fuel and then stalls before I can shift into drive. I can press on the accelerator to push more fuel and it sometimes work or it was also suggested that I loosen the gas cap which has worked too.
I've replaced the spark plugs, alternator, starter and fuses and I'm still having issues. I'm looking at the fuel pump next. My question is should I replace the fuel pump with honda parts ($450) or can I get by with aftermarket parts? |
If it is a fuel system issue then why spend money replacing the spark plugs, alternator, starter??
If it cranked then it didn't need a starter, alternator, battery Did you check for spark? Did you check for injector pulses? Does the fuel pump prime the fuel rail when the key is first turned to the on position? Well, if you are throwing parts at it then I hope the fuel pumps works Good luck |
Could be a starter relay,I had this problem on a Ford F-350 it was the neutral safety switch. |
Mcronin123 said in the opening post that the engine cranks
So, it is not the starter relay or neutral safety switch. |

Opening posts does not say it doesn't crank
The intermittent bad starts are for the condition of crank, no start. That points to a different part of the starting/running system. Intermittent faulty starter relay or neutral safety switch would keep the engine from cranking .. so, no crank, no start. Different animal. |
If you put the transmission in neutral and it cranks then it is the safety switch that's bad. |

A neutral safety switch keeps the engine from starting by not letting the signal get through from the ignition switch through the safety switch to the starter solenoid. Thus, NO CRANK, no start. I would suggest checking the engine for spark and injector pulse If both are missing then it could be the crank sensor If one or the other is missing then trace back into that particular system. |
