1982 Accord LX Hatch: Hub Stuck?
I cannot get the passenger side hub off this damn car!! I followed the Service Manual instructions:
- Tierod is off
- Lower ball joint is off
- Shock absorber is off
- Of course caliper assembles is off
- Even pulled the CV boot off to check inside
the manual says at this point to pull the hub from the axle. But this damn this isn’t coming off by hand.
Resorted to the old “2 C-clamp trick” and that’s failing.
Amy ideas?!?!

welcome to the forum. did you remove the nut holding the axle from backing out, takes about 150 lbs to loosen. i use a 24" breaker bar with a 5 ft cheater pipe. takes a 32mm socket i think. normally taken off or loosen up before the brake caliper is removed.

You have a case of rust welding. That is when rust is so bad that parts are almost welded together.
Have seen videos where the mechanic puts it under s 20 ton press and still did not come out.
They bought a new knuckle/hub.
I would do as you did and put it under pressure
Then take a hammer and smack the CV out
Sometimes it needs the pressure and a shock of the hammer to loosen it.
When I have problems removing a bolt or nut, I heat it up with propane or map gas
Then douse it with lots of water to quench the heat
Do that a couple of times and maybe it will loosen??

Nice video! (pretty entertaining to watch!). I was able to get the driver side off today with no issue, just pulled it off by hand after a little tap on the axle. The passenger side is the one that will require some intervention. I'll see if I can find a gear puller and some torch.

Oh, when you put it back together, remember to clean and put anti-seize on the mating pieces
Makes it easier if you have to take them apart again

Weird thing: absolutely no rust! The bearing is definitely bad on that side.
Must have been cocked in there. That being said, how do I know if I need to replace the passenger side axle or CV?
