1994 honda accord auto trans seal problem
 

Has anyone out there had a problem like this i have put 2 transmissions in this vehicle both leak from the area of the trans housing where the torque converter slides into the trans there is a black seal that surrounds the out put shaft where the torque converter slides into the leak is coming from that area. I replaced the seal 2 times and still leaking very fast.

Any ideas at this point would be helpful

Ok finally hopefully no one has to go thru what I have experience in the past month 4 to 5 x taking out trans to find a leak. I will try to make this Long story short org trans was slipping found another one at savage yard before installing it I replaed the torque conv seal and axle seals purchased from Advanced auto.

I put it in and and leaked out the area of the torque conv where it slides into the shaft of the trans. took it out took it to a trans shop that told me it looked like there was a crack on the side of it so I used some JB weld on it.

I put it back in the car and it leaked again. I looked up behind the torq conv and seen that the jb weld spot was dry but it was still leaking from the torq conv. I took the trans back out I didnt have any thing to loose so I took the old trans that was slipping not leaking and put in a new torq conv seal in it and install the trans. It was know leaking just like the other one. I got on the computer searching for any info on this but couldnt find anything that was detailed enough.

I made another inspection of the area where the torq conv seal goes on and then noticed a hole at the bottom part of it. I knew at that point the hole was meant to provide trans fluid to the bearings that the seal also protects.

I went back to advanced auto to purchase another seal but they were out so I called NAPPA who had one but the price was 18 dollars instead of the 12 or so dollars advanced was charging. Picked up the NAPPA seal and it was green in color and also appeared to be made of a different material.

A friend of mine told me to coat the inside of the seal with vasoline and the outside of the seal with 3m adhesive gasket sealent (yellow in color sold at advanced auto) well I put the trans back in the vehicle last night and it worked.

The big lesson here is dont drive the seal passed the lip because its going to leak
