Newbie with first post. The owners manuel calls for 0w/20 synthetic oil. Is using 5w-20 conventional dino oil okay?. My understanding is the only advantage of synthetic oil to dino is better temperature tolerance and longer drain intervals.. I tried to get an oil change the other day and the mechanic refused to change the oil unless synthetic oil was used. Seemed like an upsale.to me.

 

synthetic oil keeps the engine cleaner that conventional oil, if your car does not have any warranty, you can use any type or kind of oil you want, it may just shorten the life of your engine or clog up the oil passage. just a thought, good engine oil is cheaper that engine internal damage. ( own a 07 Fit, 286k on 0W-20 mobile syn )
