92 Accord A/C not working

Folks, My A/C on my 92 Accord EX , Auto, 203K miles quit blowing cool airyesterday. I hear a slight hissing noise coming from the vents when I turnthe A/C on. The compressor sounds like it is switching on. I've tried to operate it on all fan speeds.

What is the best place to start? Is there a specific fuse that I should check first? Is there more than one fuse for the A/C? What are the other usual suspects to track down?

Thanks!

Doug

Get a pressure guage, and on the low side check what kind of pressure you have in your system. If low, the pressure switch will not allow the compressor to turn on. Might think of going to the new type freon, costs a bit less. When you turn your a/c on, with the fan on , check to see if the compressor front engages and is turning.

Thanks! What A/C pressure range should I expect? To convert from R-12 to R-134a requires a conversion kit - correct? I saw somewhere that Autozone has such a conversion kit. Is this easy to install? Any words of wisdom on such a conversion?

Thanks again!

Doug

When you purchase the change over kit, it will have the list of pressures high side and low side, be aware the r-134 is not as cool as the r-12. You will feel the a/c but not icy cold. I beleive there is a couple of "O" rings and fittings to change, also may want to flush out the old system, and besure to get a can of lube for the new freon. or the compressor will lock up. If you ask AutoZone, they may be able to advise you on what to use to flush out your system of the old oil.what state are you in for Autozone. Are you already register onAutozone.comto get all repair info and parts needed for your car.

Thanks! I'm from South Carolina. I'll log on the Autozone site, and see what they have to say on properly (and legally) removing the old R-12 and oil from the AC system from my 92 Accord (2.2 L / Auto - 203K miles).

On another note - I am going to replace the timing belt and water pump this weekend, as well as all the other belts. Any words of wisdom? I've donea few search's but can't find anything coherent. Any recommendations? I have a good manual in hand. I've replaced the water pump on my old 66 Mustang (very easy), and on my old 72 Camaro (very easy as well) while in college.... but just looking at the timing belt cover, and all that follows - makes the 92 Honda look like a bigger challenge. All words of wisdom would be much appreciated!!!

By theway - I got 32 mpgon my last trip on the freeway to North Carolina. Not bad for 203K and an automatic.

Thanks again!

Doug
