97 Accord LX Timing Belt help
So, I picked this car out of a barn to fix up for my son; $1000, so far I've done brakes, cv joints, alternator, battery, and front struts. I told him not to drive too far until we got the serpentine and timing belts changed, but he didn't listen so it broke down on the side of the road; the serpentine belt broke and cut the wire to the crank position sensor. I got the serpentine belt, but it still didn't run right, so we towed it home.
The parts came in Friday: Timing belts, water pump, valve cover gasket, spark plugs (2 were covered in oil from the top), wires, distributor cap, rotor button, thermostat. Got it 90% done Saturday; the crank pulley took 2 hours. Got up today (Sunday), went through the tensioning procedure for the timing belts and buttoned it up, only to be met with this when I started: https://streamable.com/m2wqo Notes: My son did the spark plug wires, but just yanked them all off and had to look up on the Internet which order they went in; surely that wouldn't be letting it run at all, though, would it? I haven't spliced the cut wire, yet, so the crank position sensor is still not working, but it wasn't making that noise before. It sounds like valve clatter, but the timing marks were perfect after the tensioning procedure. I've done several timing belt jobs before, but never had this problem; help! :) |
FYI, the timing belt tensioner slipped off of the pivot post and was not tensioning the belt, which was slapping against the timing cover.
Thanks for the help... |
If you haven't corrected the problem with the CPS do it,the car will not crank and run unless the sensor is operational.
