'99 Accord Hot Start Issue
Hey all,
My accord's got about 151k miles on it, but this issue's been happening since about 100k... I think I've put up with it long enough.
Basically, it sounds similar to the relay problem a lot of people have, but my car only does this after it's already been running. What's happening is if I've had the car running (duration doesn't matter.. could be 100 miles, could be just moving it to a different spot in the driveway, as happened today), if I try to start the car back up relatively soon after stopping it, it will stall. Today, i moved the car to a different spot in the driveway, to let another vehicle out, and 10 minutes later went out to the car again and tried to start it.
The car will start and run for about 2 or 3 seconds. When it drops down to idle speed, it starts to sputter and then dies. If I try to give it gas, I can floor the pedal, but it acts as though nothing is happening.
One time it did this, and i immediately revved the engine after it started, and I got it up to about 4 grand and still had my foot on the pedal, but the car died anyway and the engine spun down.
I've seen the relay issues, and this problem sounds similar, but I don't think it's heat in the cab that's causing this issue, since the car could be in the shade and having been in A/C for a while.
Anyone else have experience with this?
It's something that would be hard to take to a mechanic, because it can be hard to reproduce on demand.
By the way, if I try too many times in a row, after it keeps stalling, eventually it will get to where it won't crank and the starter motor is just spinning. I'm wondering if maybe it's not getting any fuel to the engine.
