alternator problems 92 accord lx
 

Well went outside this morning got into my car and started it , let it warm up for about 5 mins and was just about to put it into drive and take off when I noticed the check battery light was on, which has never happened before. So I turned the car off, and then turned it back maybe it was a glitch or something from the cold but no it continued to stay on. So turned it off again got out pulled out the multimeter and the battery shower 11.17 volts when it should be atleast 12 volts, tunred on the car to test the alternator and the battery contuned to show 11.17 volts it was like the alternator wasn't even there.Anyway left it for awhile came back did the alternator test again and now it shower 13.60 volts so its working. whats up with that, i know its not the battery cables because i checked them and there on that battery really well?

Is this a sign that my alternator is going or is there something else i should be worried about?

just some info, When my accord did this, the car had approx 125k after the 2nd timing belt change. It went on for 5 min, then off, 2 days later it stayed on, same type voltage reading as mine, but never came back up. changed alternator, had the shop check the brushes,it was very thin. If you have high milage, it can be the alternator.

i have 278000 on the motor but the alt was changed last year for aused one from a junkyard, i think they might have changed the brushes on it but i dunno

I'm guessing the terminals are clean? and hey, it could just be that stupid light...
