Engine oil recommendation

I have a 2012 Accord LE-P and I'm preparing to change oil myself. Manual recommends 0W-20, but boy that sure seems light for the high temps in southern Nevada where I live. Anybody have any experience or knowlegde with using a heavier weight oil, say 5W-30?

welcome to the forum. my 02 civic is now on 5w-30 having 265k. my 07 Fit with 198k is still 0w-20. Ca. temps do get hot and cold. I talked with honda service dept. says it will do good for the engine. not like the older american cars, as engine wears, thicker oil used. new gen cars most use thin oil. Also Honda uses Mobil 1 oil. 28.00 for 5 qt syn 0W-20 at walmart. Call your dealer where you purchase your car and find out what they use to keep your warranty on the car good.

I use Mobil 1 in all my cars except the Diesel truck. GM reccomends it for the Vette.

Yeah, I talked to a lub service guy at the dealer and, while not the most articulate, suggested I stay with the 0W-20 to assure compliance with warranty requirements. I used Castrol 20W-50 in my 2002 Accord and it went 230,000 miles without using any oil between changes. That was a great car . . . . wish I still had it!

its mainly for better MPG using thicker oil won't hurt the engine.
