Default Shifter hard to get out of park

Hi,

I have a 92 accord, lx, 4cyl, auto... with 96,000 miles. Just starting this month the shift lever(gear) is getting harder and harder to move out of park. I started to use the shift override interlock thing on the consule, and it is not making a difference.... so any help in this matter... At first i thought it might be the brake unit, that when u press on the brake it unlocks the shifter... but useing the key in the override should bypass that, sooooo that is why I am asking, thank u in advance....

Check your tail lights, they maybe burnt out. Safety feature built in to many cars.

No,it's a safety feature the Gov't made car makers install years ago,if both your brake lights are blown you are not supposed to be able to put the trans in gear,It happened to me about 10 years ago, must have been driving around with one burned out and when the other lamp failed it locked it down.Check it out.

@ bucwheat.... I feel like an idiot... my third brake light was out. I saw the indicator on the dash, but ignored it because the other 4 tail lights worked fine... I put in a new bulb in the third light and SOB.. the shifter is smooth as grease..... Damn Honda..LOL

thanks again Bucwheat!!!!!!!!

I think I spoke too soon, its back... all tail lights are good. I hear the click under the dash when I press the brake pedal, and I hear and feel the click at the consell shifter.....ugh....sounds like a trip to Honda unless anyone else has any ideas....??
