overheating '96 accord

My '96 honda accord is overheating. The fan on the passenger side is not working. Does this have anything to do with the coolant system? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

Thanks,
Shawn

RE: overheating '96 accord

You should have (2) fans under the hood.

One is for engine temperature control and the other is for the A/C when it is turned on.

If you turn on your A/C, both cooling fans should automatically come on, if one is not coming on then you have either a bad motor, bad connectors, bad temperature sensor or a bad ground somewhere.

Easiest test is to remove the fan plug after determining that is is not working properly under the A/C test. Then add 12V directly to the fan to see if it moves. Then run a amp meter to see how much amps it is pulling. Could be bad connections or a bad motor.

If both fans are running with the A/C, then do a stand idling temperature test where you let the car idle and see if you get a cycling of 12V on the fan plug (disconnect the fan to test for voltage and watch your temps!!!! - shut off before meltdown) This may be caused by a faulty temp sensor if the 12V never shows up even when the car is very hot.

Good luck and post your results.
