Default Rack and Pinion? Your Opinion needed.

Was just wondering if $600 seems okay for replacing my rack and pinion on a 91 honda accord lx.

They told me all I need is the bottom boot but while I'm there I might as well change it all. His reasoning was because it's so hard to get a boot without the rack and pinion. He said even if I find the boot they'll charge me almost the same amount, so I might as well get it all together.

And he said I should just drive it until the boot gives out. What happens when the boot gives out? I don't want to be going 60-70 mph down the free and all of a sudden get in an accident because of the boot finally giving out.

the boot is for only holding the greese in the bearing area, you can go get a boot for 28.00 at pep boys and install it yourself. Pack it with the proper greese first. If there is nothing wrong with the rack and pinion, or half shaft joints. Pep boys will change it for you for a labor fee.
