Replaced Timing Belt on 96 Accord 2.2L VTEC, now engine won't crank
 

Hey guys,

I replaced the timing belt, turned the engine over manually, put on the balancer belt and put everything else together. Then I went to start the car and it won't crank at all. Not only will it not start, but the engine refuses to turn over. I then went to the crank pulley and attempted to rotate it manually. It's still stuck. I can't rotate it even with a breaker bar. Outside of just tearing it all apart and redoing the timing belt job, what could be the problem? Did I put too much tension on the pulleys? Could something be stuck in the pulleys and preventing them from rotating? I checked all the electrical bits and everything seems to be in order. Moreover, I replaced the starter 2 weeks ago, so I'm fairly certain that's not the problem.

Remove accessory belt(s) and then check if the engine will rotate.

welcome to the forum. what was the reason for changing the timing belt? if it broke while engine was running, possible valve stuck on piston. if changed in advanced of belt broken, after putting the timing belt on and turning the crank, you may have placed the cam and crank out of time. did you place the #1 piston to top dead center and checked the crank to cam alignment marks prior to belt change.

I'm replacing the belt as regular maintenance. It's the first big job I've done myself on the car. The belt was 40,000 miles overdue.

I'll try that. However, I think it might be an issue with the timing of the two oil pumps run by the balancer belt. The oil pumps rotate 3 times for every one rotation of the crank. I learned this only after I put everything on and had already rotated the engine without the balancer on there. Do you think that this being out of time would make the engine locked up?

IT'S FIXED!! I'm not sure exactly what the issue was, but I essentially just redid the whole timing job. Starts up and works like a charm. Thank you all for your input.
