Timing marks dont line up please help
4 Attachment(s)
Hi i am doing a head gasket repair , timing belt completely broke off, i am able to get crank to TDC , but i am unable to get one of the heads timed correctly the mark on the gear is off by 180 degrees , when i get it to line up the valves are poking out a lot and then it jumps 4-6 teeth i can attach pictures as well , to my. knowledge the cam is at TDC but timing marks don't match up need advice or if there is something wrong or if i have to replace the cams as well
/ i uploaded pictures for reference , the white marks are where the marks should line up, these pictures all came from the same head (V6 J35 engine) i removed the head to attempt to turn the timing manually and they are off by that many teeth about 40 degrees off but its either off to the left or to the right , and in once picture i was able to line up the lines but the valves are popping out , just want to know where i go from here or next steps thank you in advance for who ever comes and saves the day |
What we working on?
So the belt broke while driving? Valves bent? |
2008 honda accord v6 , yes belt was all torn and caught in the crank gear so it turned off on me and doesnt seem to turn on over so i removed the block and timing belt and there was a blown head gasket but luckily no bent valves or damaged pistons , everytime i turn the cam gear to align the timing marks it jumps either too much to the left or too much to the right but doesn't want to line up the the actual mark, i am able to get it to the intake stroke on cylinder 1 so it should be timed but the actual marks arent lining up any suggestions? should i replace the cam? or loose the cam assembly to line up the marks or leave it as is? i would appreciate anything i'm right not stuck on what to do next
