Default transmission rebuild

Hello Honda Experts,

Just got a quote to get the old tranny rebuilt, it was slipping at second gear for about a month. Its a 4 cyl 2002 with about 125k miles. I was wondering if $1900 with a 1 yr warranty seemed like a decent price. I can also add additional warranty for $300 more per year.

Personally I think warranties are a waste of money, but what do you guys think. I feel like if it doesn't break within a year, then it will probably be in good shape for the life of the transmission. Any thoughts if I should shell out the extra cash?

Thanks!

welcome to the forum. If the tranny shop is a reputable shop, the warranty is not needed. Need to consider how long the shop has been there, does AAA auto club advise using this shop, look in the internet to see if there are any derogotory comments, check with the bbb and see if there are any complaints. some home work will not hurt.

not all aamco is horror, some are great shops, need to check with the bbb and complaints sites. you might want to get a warranty with aamco.

Check to make sure they are member of ATRA. If they are a ATRA member then you get a national warranty and assurance that the shop is fully trained.
