yes, many read your post, but difficult to answer, Honda's ownerslink states that your owners manuel supposed to give you an idea of what fuel to use. Also it states that you should not use any higher octane rated fuel then needed. But according to your higher compression ratio, a higher octane rating is needed. Also depends on the blend, the gas manufactor uses. Several of my vehicles ford, chev, I have noticed a no knock condition with shell. Also with this methnol being used, less power = more fuel burn. hope this helps a bit

Exactly. I have just put my third tank of Shell in, 93 octane, I have no knock condition at this time. It seems to downshift a lot more on acceleration withthe shell, but at this point I could be hyper sensetive. I started knocking on the Chevron 93 which is why I tried the shell. I knock on any brands 87 or 89

What you are saying about the manual is true...it says use 86 or higher....prob for marketing reasons.

I was just surprised that any engine could be so sensitive, and I dont understand it. PErsonally I could live with the knocking if I knew it wasnt hurting anything , in order to pay less for the gasoline.

Not knowing much about the compression ratios, sounds like you agree that it calls for higher octane.

Very helpful, pls advise.

Oh, also , yeah, last April I drove FLA to MASS, and used Ethanol from VA to MASS. My mileage went down 5mpg...and yes, it seemed dead or heavy on the power side.

I find the shell to be kind of less power then the chevron...but no knock right now which is cool.

Whenever I bring it to the tech,....of course it doesnt knock...

Maybe I should put like the cheapest 87 in there so they can hear it when I go in, or if you are confirming that a 10:1 compression with 240 HP 86x86 bore SOHC 24V needs the High OCtane, could be problem solved.

Not for nothin though, 93 Octane seems to reduce my smooth 700rpm idle to a bit more of a noisy 650 rpm idle.

read into the spec's for the accord, the engine even with the 10:1 comp ratio still suppose to use the low octane, low lead per spec's. you may have a good idea to put in the cheapest low octane, and let the tech hear it, they may reset your timing. advanced timing may also cause a knock. This will allow you to use the proper fuel octane.

If you'd like to get a lot of spec's and info on your accord, go to Honda.com, owners sections with Q & A type in your Q on 2005 accord gasoline octane and you will get a lot of information. this may help

i've got a 99 ex 4 cyl. andmy check engine light would come on indicating a knock sensor problem. i read in a random thread somewhere that low oil can cause a problem with the oil sensor and causes some kind of delay causing the knock sensor to misread. next time such a problem occurs, check your oil level. Was a wierd thing, but my oil was low (as i switched to synthetic oil and didn't realize it burned faster than regular oil because it is thinner, something i found out after the fact) anyway adding oil fixed my problem.
