01 civic slowed & check enigne light came on
I was on a highway I pulled over and saw light.
I drove 1/2 mile home very slow, it has 65k mi Your thoughts on possible problem & repair cost Is it okay to drive 2-3 miles to shop. 1.7 liter 4 cyl, Thanks |
if you saw light, need to go to shop to get code. possible problem, exhaust system plugged, lack of fuel, timing, induction clogging up,

One of my poker buddies suggested to go to Autozone they can check for a code.
I was driving it there maybe 2 miles light goes off ,they can't check anything. I now call two shops they say, it may have set a code it may not have, it's $90 one place or $105 diag. check. If code not set ' it is like a needle in a hay stack. They gave me these options: leave it for a day or two and we will drive it around to see if it happens again or drive it and bring it in as soon as it happens again. I'm debating what to do??? |
go to autozone, have them reset code if any, and drive it around again. make sure all your fluids are up to good level. how many miles on car. did you get your gas from the same station all the time.

Acmech, I did go to autozone and since the check engine light was not on when I arrived they said they can't read a code.
The car has 65,000 mi, all fluids were fine in fact I even checked the coolant in the rad after it cooled off. The engine was very hot when I got home it had a a cracking or popping sound after I turned it off. The sound appeared to be coming from the front part of the engine where there is a some kind of sensor I guess and like a metal shield around it. The gas three different brands. The car has run fine since Mon. but only 5-10 mile trips around town , I'm using or other car for longer trips |
