Default 2000 civic air conditioning

I have a 2000 Honda civic EX with 98,5000 miles. The air conditioning is completely broke on it. I cant use my defrost or heater either. Before i pay for the repair or diagnostic i was curious as to what this could possibly cost me. They think it is the compressor and some filter too.
Any info would be great!

you heater depends strictly on your engine temp. and you A/C depends on weather you have freon or not. so if your car doest have a thermostat it cant build enough noticable heat temp and you dont have freon your not gonna have cold air which just leaves you with plain air. if it doesnt work at all the fan motor is broke. so you might have both but the fans dont work.. the diagnose and repair shouldnt be that costly i would say around 300-400 dollers would be my guess if your getting it done from the dealership. and if your not getting it from the dealership it should be fairly cheap.. but i reccomend the dealers i love bringing things back to them and getting stuff fixed for free when they mess up.. well good luck
