2005 Civic Overheating
So I know you probably seen this or heard of this problem before but my 2005 Honda Civic is overhearing. I recently bought it used, and I have the Carfax with me. First time it overheated, was on a short drive to Walnut Creek (25ish miles) and on the way back it overheated. It sprayed the coolant over the engine bay as the coolant was pushed into the coolant reservoir. And it pushed out through the cap. Also when it was overheating I tired the hot air method but it was cold half the time and it would heat up again. Thermostat was replaced less than 1k miles. It’s a 2005 Honda Civic EX with 216xxx Miles. What would be your point if attack when dealing with this? I’m 18 and it was my first car I bought. So hopefully it’s not anything bad, but any list I should go through would help!

Welcome to the forum. Check to see you if the fan motor is working by idle the engine first start of the day and watch your temp gauge. When it gets close to 3/4, the fan should kick in. If not shut it off. Cool down. Place 12 volts to the fan to see if it turns. If not fan motor is bad. If fan turns thermostat sending switch I’d bad. Check with utube and they will show you a videos on how to check.

Usually disconnecting the coolant temperature sensor will turn on both radiator and AC cooling fans. Did the fans turn on? Do they turn on when the engine reaches passed the mid range? |

No, that is not the hot air method.
Turning the heat on will let hot coolant into the cabin heater and the fan will pull the heat out of the coolant. Then when the coolant returns to the engine, it will help to cool it down a little Turning the AC to hot does not pull hot coolant into the heater core to remove heat from the cooling system. That will only turn off the compressor. |
Faulty head gasket confirmed, 1.5k repair. Topic closed
