2009 Civic Hybrid Help, buying for my daughter
Hello all, my first post here... I hope this is the right place.
Long story short, my daughter lives in CA and is not having luck finding a car and they seem to be more expensive there (used anyway). So I found a 2009 Civic Hybrid, clean CarFax, history of oil changes and brakes only. I started to google and saw many hits about Battery issues and even called the Honda dealer here and they said that this may be a firmware update, etc. The car would have 2 years left on the warranty for the batter, it is just under 40,000 miles. The cost is $12,000 and would cost me an additional (approximate, $1000 to ship). I do not want her to buy into a car that may become problematic and cost a large sum of money to fix.. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for any input.

welcome to the forum. I don't think the cost of the battery is that much. looking into hondaautomotiveparts.com shows the battery to be 2050.00 list for a 09 civic hybrid. then labor to repalce it. You might call a few different dealerships to get a better price. Ca. also pays for a certain amount of the battery if there is anything found wrong (dead cell) and batteries have gone for up to 10 yrs with no problem. Need to find a dealership that will not try to take advantage. in 07 I purchased a Honda Fit, has more cargo space than a civic. 1.5L eng. 117 hp in 09 and up. auto 5sp. now 230k and runs good. Its and enjoying car to drive. It has power to climb the Cahon Pass at 90+.

hybrids don't really give that much extra mpg i remember honda getting sued over false mpg claims on there hybrids i would just get her a smaller car like the honda FIT those cars look way better and are wicked fun to drive and if you teach her to drive stick the mpg goes way up. if your dead set on a hybrid look into the CRZ.
